Early Airport Call

Look at how good these beauties look at 6 a.m. We all had to get up at 5:15 to get Daddy and Lindsey & Holly to the airport on time this morning. Daddy is on his way back to Laramie and the girls are headed to Salt Lake City for Lindsey's annual Girls Spring Fling with her extended family. We'll have Delaney with us until she returns on Sunday.

Naomi: Let's be Fashion Girls today. Fashion girls don't wear socks.

Fiona: But I wanna wear socks so I'll be a Cool girl cuz they wear socks.

He's just not.....

Overheard as we were riding in the car yesterday:

Fiona: Boys are stupid.

Naomi: That's mean. That would mean dad is stupid because he's a boy. He's not stupid...he's just not fabulous.

Feeding Ducks on the Lake

The other morning the girls were out early and in their PJ's feeding the resident ducks that have returned to our little lake. Notice how brown the water is right now. And the grass is brown. It still looks like winter. But in the front yard I've noticed the crabgrass is starting to green up the lawn...a sure sign spring is around the corner.

Funny Things Kids Do and Say

Yesterday Fiona and Naomi get into some sort of a sister-fight, and Fiona slaps her sister (who has had the stomach flu in the last 12 hrs) right in the stomach. Naomi cries, and comes to me to tell me what's happened.

Me to Fiona: "We do not hit people, Fiona. Why did you slap your sister in the stomach?"
Fiona: "Because I have powers."
Me: "Well that's not nice. A time out for you, Missy. Stand in this corner till I tell you you can leave."

Fiona stands in the corner for 3 min, then refuses to apologize to Naomi. So back she goes until she's ready to apologize. Five min. later she says she's ready to apologize, so I let her out, and she does indeed sweetly apologize to her sister. Hugs, love, its all good.

When Rick comes in from cleaning/painting the garage I tell him what's occurred, thinking he'll find it amusing.

Rick to Fiona: "So you slapped Naomi in the stomach? Why did you do that? Did you tell Mom you have powers?"
Fiona with a straight face: "Uh huh. I did. I have super powers. JUST LIKE A DUMB MAN."

Well, what more was there to say for Rick? He couldn't believe it. Neither could I. We don't know where that came from, but it sure was funny.

Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha!!! She is SO HILARIOUS! We're still howling over that one.

Greaser Sock Hop

Last Friday I dropped in at the Bailey Station Kindergarten Sock Hop, which closed out Greaser Day. Got to see lots of the kids and teachers who dressed up. I wasn't sure what kind of 1950's dancing kindergartners born in the last 6 years could do, so was curious about that. But I did see kids having fun, smiling, enjoying the music and burning off lots of energy. Saw Naomi in the midst of the Hula Hoop contest, and she was great! Her class was very proud of her for representing Mrs. Thomas' Tigers so well. She's a champ! Enjoy several of the30 second videos I caught with my camera, which I've posted.

Fun at the Collierville Crossings Mall

Back in November 2009 I took Fiona, Naomi and Delaney to the Collierville mall for a trip to Build A Bear Workshop so the girls could use their gift cards which they got from Nicole. After getting their bears we headed over to the little park and I took some pictures while the girls played around. These are some of our memories from that day.

Small Doggy Love

The nicest thing about having a smaller dog is that we can easily put her in the sink and wash her when she gets to stinking. Such was the case this morning for Ruby. She always looks funny with her coat all wet. But oh how much more lovin' she gets when she's clean again!

Sister Troubles

This is what it looks like for Fiona after she gets in trouble for grabbing a handful of her sister's hair and yanking on it when she doesn't get her way. Into the corner you go for a Time Out!

These are happy sisters once again, who can come together and be friends.

Snow...for a while.

We got a little bit of snow last week, and a sprinkling again yesterday. I wish we would get dumped on!

Guess who Grandpa has in the bag now? Yep, its baby Delaney! She begins the second generation of the now famous BagBaby.

Our neighbor across the lake, Sam, had his 5th birthday party on the Collierville Square at Wish Memories. Sam was born in Ukraine and adopted by our neighbors along with his older sister Claire when he was 4 yrs old. Sam's 5th birthday was his first one he ever got to celebrate! The video is of the kids racing to find buried treasure. Kids could choose to be a super hero or a diva.

This video was made the night Holly was born Dec 15, 2008. In fact, it was just after the girls got out of the tub that Adam called and said she had arrived. I dressed Delaney and her and I rushed to the hospital to see the beautiful new Mallory-Huff baby.

Rick hates these photos of himself. He thinks he looks really old. He hadn't got to doing his hair yet, and it looks crazy. He begged me to take them off the page. Ahh, not yet...its fun to see him squirm!

The Monster Mash Gets Her Movin'

What can you do with yarn?

We decided to try making yarn locks! I watched some YouTube videos on how to braid it into the girls' hair, and then we tried it. Wasn't too difficult, just VERY time consuming. We started Naomi's hair Saturday afternoon about 4:30 and didn't finish by eleven, so we put her to bed. Woke up Sunday and started again, hoping to be done by church time. That wasn't to be, so we stayed home while Dad and Fiona went. In all it took 11 hours to do hers. Fiona's took a little longer because I messed up one side by grabbing too little a section of hair so I had to go back and re-do it. We don't know how long its gonna last, but I'm hoping at least 3 weeks. We shall see. The girls love their long hair. Fiona's favorite way to wear it is hanging in her face. That's okay around the house, but we make her pull it back out of her eyes when she goes to school or church. I'm guessing it would be about $75-$100 if we went to a salon and had them do it, per girl. It cost us $3.25 for the skane of yarn.

Shannon in Kindergarten

This is my kindergarten class photo from 1968. Me, back row center, tallest in my class. I remember I was afternoon kindergarten and I walked up the hill from our house on Beacon Hill (where we lived with my Grandma Gladys in her house, which was a pink house) to the school which was at the very top of the hill. I vaguely remember my teacher Mrs. Willmer. She was very nice. She wrote neatly on the black chalkboard. She gave us saltine crackers for snack a lot of the time. I don't recall any of my classmates names, but what strikes me when I look at this photo is how diverse my class was! Asians, Caucasian, East Indian, Black, Hispanic. I love that!
